Affordable Dentures in Richmond, Victoria

Dentures, or ‘false teeth’, can be an effective short to medium term option to replace missing teeth. Dentures have certainly evolved over the centuries of its documented use, and for many patients, it is the only option they have known for missing teeth.

Depending on the position and number of missing teeth, dentures can be made for a comfortable fit that still allows normal chewing, speaking, and tasting of food.

Over time, the gums and underlying bone recede where teeth are missing. Dentures may not fit as well, and food and plaque bacteria can lead to gum infections or tooth decay. If no other tooth replacement option is possible, resurfacing of the denture is important to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Why Choose Dentures?

Aside from being an affordable alternative for replacing upper and lower missing teeth, there are some incredible advantages of getting dentures, including:

  • Better self-confidence – Dentures naturally fill in the empty spaces in your mouth left by missing teeth. By doing so, dentures can help you regain the confidence you once had when you had a full set of natural teeth.
  • You can eat almost anything – Almost. Dentures are a highly efficient and cost-effective way to replace several teeth at one time. Often used as interim treatments, they can go a long way to making you feel comfortable and confident enough to smile and chew.
  • Your speaking problems will disappear– Since dentures replace missing teeth, any speech problems will begin to resolve as you get used to wearing dentures.

Of course, the best advantage is that you will get a set of fully functioning teeth that look and feel natural.

Types of Dentures

There are two main types of dentures — complete dentures and partial dentures:

  • Complete Dentures –  We recommend complete dentures when all teeth are missing. They are made of a base that is coloured the same as your gums, and can fully support a full set of prosthetic teeth. Complete dentures are usually secured with adhesives or natural suctions.

If you are looking for a set of perfect-looking brand new teeth that don’t move and shift, have a look at All-On-4 treatments that have changed our patients’ lives!

  • Partial Dentures – Partial dentures are used when a single tooth, or multiple teeth in different areas of the mouth are missing. Just like with complete dentures, partials are made with either a gum-coloured base or a metal framework.

Caring for Dentures (Maintenance and Repair)

Dentures, just like your natural teeth, need daily care. You need to keep them clean and free from the bacteria that naturally grows inside your mouth.

Here are our recommendations for caring for dentures:

  • When you take your dentures out, stand over a folded towel or a sink full of water. This will keep them safe from breaking if they are accidentally dropped.
  • Just like your regular teeth, dentures must be brushed too. Use a soft-bristled brush and gently brush the surfaces of the dentures, being careful not to break or bend the plastic. Also, be sure to rinse your dentures after each meal.
  • Steer clear of toothpastes, mouthwashes, and household cleaners to clean your dentures. Use a mild hand soap instead.
  • Keep your dentures moist when they are not being worn. Keep them in a cleaning solution or water, or else they run the risk of drying out, cracking, breaking, or losing their shape.

IMPORTANT: If your dentures break, please contact our  Richmond office to try and schedule a same day appointment to repair them as soon as possible.  Broken dentures that don’t fit properly can cause irritation to your gums and mouth.
